gute Reise

My travel dreams are coming true in just over 1 week when my husband and I are moving from Austin, Texas to Zürich, Switzerland!

Grüß dich! Ich heiße Cindy! Ich bin 49 Jahre alt, und ich komme aus Austin, Texas.

Ok, enough with the German lesson. I'm Cindy. I'm 49 years old, and I come from Austin, Texas. I recently moved my 3rd (and youngest) kid off to college. Almost as soon as we parked our car back in the garage from the drop-off my husband, who works for a giant tech/social media company, decided to accept a transfer to the office in Zürich, Switzerland. Ok, there will be no empty nesting here!

It actually wasn't quite as abrupt a decision as I described above. He had been considering this switch for a while, seriously enough that I've been brushing up my German skills since November 2020. I had 4 semesters of German language in college so that's been a big help. Plus, there's been a little blip in everyone's life called SARS-CoV-2 for more than a year that dictated the timeline of the process. But in the end, the timing worked out great and now we're in the final countdown before we expatriate during the first week of June.

I've blogged in the past as a way to keep up with friends. We've lived hundreds of miles away from most of our friends and family for the past 20 years, so it was a good way to keep them updated on our lives without having to make a bunch phone calls to everyone and repeat the same stuff over and over. Blogging has come a looooooong way since back in that stone age. I won't be working while we're in Switzerland, so I decided to give myself something to do and see if I can learn about "new" blogging. It's got to be better than watching Tik Tok videos, right? I'm on a big learning curve here, so please pack your patience. I'm hoping to have lots of pictures from interesting places that I get to visit, as well as give some insight into daily life of a Texan living in the German speaking area of Switzerland. I'll probably have travel related product recommendations, and throw in some talk about differences between Switzerland and the United States. I may even try out my skills and post some stuff in German (with translation, of course). I'm pretty sure I've already broken the "new" blogging rule of "find a niche," but I'm up for most anything and I'll post more when it's obvious something is interesting, and post less when something isn't particularly interesting.

Back to packing now!

Prost!
